GenConn Energy, LLC is a joint venture of NRG Energy and United Illuminating. The Middletown Repowering Project consists of the addition of four General Electric LM6000-PC Sprint dual fuel gas turbines, exhaust systems with SCR and CO catalysts and associated balance of plant equipment. The gas turbines will be operated in simple cycle mode to provide short-term peaking power to the grid during periods of high demand. The aggregate generating capacity of the four units is a nominal 200 MW net.
The plant also features an aqueous ammonia storage tank and 1,000,000 gallon fuel oil storage tank with a common fuel oil and ammonia truck unloading facility.
Gemma Power Systems was responsible for the complete construction, start-up and commissioning of the new power plant, up to the low voltage side of the generator step-up (GSU) transformers. Notice to proceed occurred on May 25, 2010 with substantial completion achieved on June 10, 2011.
