Limited edition logo and employee, customer events mark platinum year
GLASTONBURY, CT, January 18, 2017 – Gemma Power Systems, LLC (GPS) is beginning a year-long celebration of its founding in 1997.
Gemma founders Joel M. Canino and William F. Griffin began the company 20 years ago with a modest investment and an idea. They believed the large supply of aging power plants in the northeast U.S. presented a tremendous business opportunity as replacement generation would be needed.
After planning to start a new venture for a couple of months, they located some office space and began operating in May of 1997. The timing was good and Gemma soon began to build an impressive resume of projects. Starting with the Dighton Power Project located in Dighton, MA (a 160 MW single-shaft combined cycle power facility), the company now has more than 14,500 MW of installed capacity and under contract throughout the country. Gemma, a wholly owned subsidiary of Argan, Inc. (NYSE: AGX) is now a nationally recognized leader in the power generation industry.
“The organization we’ve built at Gemma is far greater than Joel and I could have imagined 20 years ago. I’m gratified and humbled by the incredible success and longevity we have achieved. We are grateful to our customers, suppliers and employees that have made us the thriving company we are today,” said Griffin.
Co-founder Joel Canino passed away in 2009. Although his presence is still missed today, his intelligence, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit lives on in Gemma’s culture.
Gemma is unveiling a limited edition anniversary logo and planning a few events throughout the year to commemorate the anniversary.
